Sunset PTA Accomplishments For The 2006-7 School Year

·    We began the year by hosting a welcome-back-to-school luncheon for the staff.

·    We organized volunteers for bus greeting, first grade packet stuffing, vision and hearing and picture day

·    We approved our goals and standing rules for the year

·    Kidmail got underway

·    Birthday wall got underway

·    Logowear began selling

·    In addition to the regular teacher-grant cycle, we allocated $15,000 for ‘basic materials’ for classrooms and $45,000 plus $20,000 for a ‘Think Big’ grant -  More Info

·    We held a back-to-school family dinner night with lots and lots of chicken

·    The paint-the-states map on the playground was complete by curriculum night

·    Striving for better communication (one of our goals for the year), we published the biggest PTA newsletter ever

 

October

·    Eager Reader started

·    Teacher PTA membership is close to 100%

·    Gretchen, our legislative representative, initiated us on many of the education funding and math/science priorities from the state PTA leg assembly

·    We had successful skate night #1

·    We moved our website to a new host and created our new URL – sunsetsockeyepta.org

·    The banking program begins

·    169 kids signed up for Reflections

·    The inception of Sunset’s Passport Geography Program

·    Sunset’s first ever Spooky Spaghetti Night was a fabulous success with donations going to the Starlight Starbright Foundation

·    The talent show was a smash hit

 

November

·    We reached 101% membership

·    382 kids participated in the first Eager Reader count

·    The Think Big grant money went to fund: a study club, musical playground, climbing wall, school signs, digital cameras, $1,000 gift to ECE, tech carts and an entertainment event for next year

·    The Reflections awards reception was held

·    Snow kept people away from the ice-skating day

 

December

·    Cartridge recyling, escript, boxtops and soup labels continue to bring in the easy money

·    Caring thru Sharing supported several families

·    Emergency supplies in the classrooms were replenished

·    The Nominating Committee is formed

·    Directory is distributed

 

January

·    The memory book was completed

·    Hodge Podge was held

·    5th grade arts & crafts was fun

·    We were educated about the Elementary Math Adoption process and considerations with a presentation from the district math specialist.

 

February

·    We purchased a defibrillator

·    The Valentine Sockhop was entertaining and well attended

·    We showed our support for education at Focus Day at the state capital.

·    Posters and notes go out to Marshall Aahl, who is in the Army serving in Iraq

·    We continue to learn about the education funding crisis within Issaquah and our state with a presentation by Leigh Stokes

 

March

·    Auction!!!  394 people attended, 50 of them were staff.  Raise the paddle brought in $32,000 to enhance the science curriculum

·    4th grade Arts & Crafts was held

·    3rd grade Arts & Crafts was held

·    2 day science fair had several new features and a great turn-out

·    Successful skate night #2

·    Eager readers reach their goal of 1.9 million minutes read

·    Our PTA wins several awards from the state

 

April

·    We elected new officers

·    Eager Reader threw quite a party complete with husky cheers, hula dancing, and refreshments

·    Budget and audit committees were formed

·    D.A.R.E. was funded

·    2nd Grade Arts & Crafts is held

·    Book fair is held in the PTA room – many positive comments

·    Flower sales begin

 

May

·    Staff appreciation week was awesome

·    Summer school scholarships are funded

·    Reorganization of PTA committees

·    The Simple Majority campaign for school levies was endorsed

·    1st grade Arts & crafts was held

·    5th grade events are being planned

·    The art walk was well attended and successful
